Physician Assistant Society

The Bexar County Physician Assistant Society, formerly South Texas PA Society, was formed in 1978 and incorporated in 1993 as a not for profit organization. The society is located in San Antonio, Texas. All Physician Assistants and Nurse Pracitioners in South Texas and beyond are welcome to join the organization.

Mission Statement

The Bexar County Physician Assistant Society’s mission is to serve as an advocate for the Physician Assistant practicing in Bexar County Texas and to enhance the professional interests and working environment of Physician Assistants to best serve our patients and the entire medical care team. It is our mission to foster the educational interests of Physician Assistants by promoting clinical and academic excellence, and providing a forum for assembling and distributing information important to our professional growth.

Whether you are practicing in family/general practice, internal/general medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, occupational medicine, or a related area, the BCPAS is the local organization you can depend on for professional growth.



2018 BCPAS Student Scholarship


About The Scholarship

The Bexar County PA Society (BCPAS) is pleased to offer scholarship awards to PA students in the didactic and clinical phases of their PA Program.  Two $500 awards will be given to didactic year students and two $1000 awards will be given to clinical year students. 

Eligibility Requirements:

1.Be a BCPAS Student Member

2.Be a graduate of a high school in Bexar County or be attending PA school in Bexar County

3.Attend an ARC-PA-accredited PA Program in Texas

4.Have successfully completed at least one semester of PA school and be in good academic standing. 

5.Be enrolled in PA school for the semester the application is given.

6.Write a 250-500 word essay on why you should be chosen for this scholarship.  Topics may include community service, involvement in a Pre-PA Society, future plans after graduation, and/or unique qualities that you possess that make you an ideal candidate for this scholarship. 

Important Dates

-Submission of all application materials: Friday, October 20, 2017

-Notification by email to applicants chosen for scholarship: Tuesday, October 31, 2017

-Awards will be presented at our Annual CME Conference on Saturday, November 4, 2017

-Awards mailed to recipients by November 30, 2017

1.Meet Eligibility Requirements as outlined above.

2.Complete Online Scholarship Application.

3.Submit a completed PA Program Faculty Form. Return by email to Jill Gore, President.

4.Write online 250-500 word essay.


PA of the Year Nominations

Nominations are now open for BCPAS PA of the Year.  

This award will be granted to a deserving PA who has a history of demonstrating exceptional service towards patients and/or the PA profession itself. The PA has gone beyond routine work in the practice or the hospital to increase patient’s access to care. In promoting the PA profession, the PA may be a leader in national, state or local organizations and institutes. The PA may have worked successfully with other healthcare providers to promote the PA as an integral member of the healthcare team.

In addition, the PA must be:

  • a member of BCPAS for more than 2 years
  • a certified PA with a license in good standing
  • in practice for more than 10 years
  • have contributed to at least one of the following:
    • PA Profession
    • PA Education
    • BCPAS
    • Local Community

The award winner will be chosen by a committee of members of BCPAS and announced at our annual conference in November. Nominations close on September 30, 2017.
