The John Kazen, PA-C Student Scholarship

During the beginning of 2021, BCPAS lost one of our dear colleagues, treasurer of the society, Fellow Lifetime BCPAS member, and friend, PA John Kazen. A graduate of the UTMB at Galveston's PA program at the young age of 19, John was dedicated to family practice medicine throughout San Antonio for over 43 years. He was among the first physician assistants to work in San Antonio and joined a solo family practice clinic. Throughout the course of his career, he dedicated his time to mentoring, guiding, and educating future advanced practice providers while serving as an associate professor for UTHSC at San Antonio’s Physician's Assistant Program and as a preceptor in family practice medicine at the University of Texas Rio Grande. John also volunteered his time at various organizations, including serving as vice president and treasurer of the Bexar County PA Society and an adviser to the American Academy of Family Practice Physician’s Assistants.

His successful PA journey gained him many recognition's such as Preceptor of the Year, PA of the year in 2014, and in 2017 BCPAS honored John for all his years of service by placing him into the BCPAS Hall of Fame. Kazen was a member of BCPAS since 2014. In his time with BCPAS he took on many different roles within our society, always striving to make it better. The BCPAS family will greatly miss PA Kazen. We were honored to have him on the board, as a Fellow Lifetime Member, and mostly as our colleague and friend.

In honor of John's service to BCPAS and the PA community, the BCPAS student scholarship will be renamed The John Kazen, PA-C Memorial Student Scholarship. If you would like to make a one-time donation to this scholarship, please complete the form below.
